Description
This position is skilled work in maintenance and repair of drawbridges and stationary bridges with the Department of Transportation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Repair and maintain drawbridges and stationary bridges.
Repair, install, and maintain guardrails and handrails.
Operate pickup and dump trucks, tractors with post driver, auger, box blade, and front-end loader.
Inspect drawbridge gears, bearings, and mechanical bridge parts to clean, adjust, and lubricate as necessary.
Install or repair traffic safety attenuator systems.
Transport a barge using wide load permits and maneuvering around the bridge structures performing repair from the water line.
Use of hand and power tools.
Set up safe work zones.
Welding repairs on bridges, aluminum railing, and for other departments as needed.
Form and pour concrete, and do flat concrete work.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and two years of work experience in equipment operations, construction trades, building maintenance, concrete, or welding.
Welding and fabricating skills/experience is strongly preferred.
Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Learners Permit and an acceptable driving record at time of offer with the ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL with Air Brakes endorsement within six (6) months of hire date is required.
This is a Safety-Sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382.
Supplemental Information
Prefer experience in repairing bridges, guardrails, welding, concrete, and fence repair.
Skilled in welding, using wire and stick type welders, and working with aluminum and steel materials is preferred.
Must be able to pick up, push, pull, or move a 80 pound object.
Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, bend, lift, walk and work in all types of weather conditions.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work flexible hours under emergency situations.
Knowledge of traffic regulations and the skill to set up a safe work zone.
The work days and hours for this position are Monday - Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
